What happens if my product does not comply by July 1, 2006?
Failure to comply could result in the eventual withdrawal of your product from the market. An enforcement authority may ask to see evidence that a “producer” has used due diligence and taken reasonable steps to comply with the requirements of the RoHS Directive.

It is critical that intelligent pre-planning can prevent unnecessary headaches later on. If you don’t have certification from your suppliers as to the substance content of your component parts and your assemblies, and you are not going to be able to access that information by the deadline, then you should consider having independent tests administered. Don’t assume you’re in the clear. No one knows how rigorously the RoHS directive will be policed, or who will shoulder the massive responsibility.
